Before you start following the steps we suggest here, make sure you've read the other two articles in which we cover the Facebook Ads setup:

Also, make sure that you've built your chatbot using the Chatfuel Flow tab and set your Facebook Ads to Active.

If things are still not working, there might be a few main reasons why. Let's go through all of them.

Bot configuration

Depending on the Ad type you need, please make sure you've followed the instructions while creating your Ad.

Click-to-Messenger (CTM) Ads

  1. Choose the Messages objective for your new Ad and give it a name

  2. Under Message Destination, choose Messenger and check that Click to Messenger is selected

  3. Choose your audience based on your business's unique goals

  4. Choose Automatic Placements

  5. Choose the desired budget and ad schedule

  6. In the Identity section, make sure you're creating the ad for the same Facebook page you're using with your Chatfuel bot

  7. Design your ad creative

  8. In the Messenger Setup section, choose the Start Conversations option and click Create

  9. In the popup window:

    1. Under Customer Actions choose buttons or quick replies (after that, you can set them up in Chatfuel)

    2. Customize the greeting (the first message the customer will see from you)

  10. Click Finish in the popup window

  11. Click Confirm to submit your Ad to Facebook for review

Sponsored Message Ads

  1. Sign in to Facebook Ads Manager and click Create Ad**.**

  2. In the Consideration section, choose Messages.

  3. Enter a campaign name and click Continue.

  4. Under Message Destination, select Messenger.

  5. Use the drop-down menu under Messenger to choose Sponsored Messages, then select the right Facebook page.

  6. In the Audience section, either Create a New Audience or Use a Saved Audience.

  7. For Placements, your only option will be Messenger, so no action is needed here.

  8. Set a budget and schedule for the sponsored message.

  9. Select the format in Message Setup: Text Only or Text & Image.

  10. Type your message (300 character limit) and upload a photo if needed (Facebook recommends 1200 x 628 pixels).

  11. You'll add the buttons or quick replies in Chatfuel, so no need to do them here. Complete your ad and click Confirm.

What if you've created your Ad correctly, but it still doesn't appear?

Check your Ad placement

In the Placements section, make sure that:

  • you only have one placement for the Ad

  • the image hasn't been cropped

Check your Ad permissions

Facebook is rather strict when it comes to permissions. So please check the ad permissions, in compliance with your page type. Here's how to check the permissions:
