In this guide we'll take a look at the most common problems when connecting an Instagram Account. In most cases, following these steps solves the problem. But first, please follow this guide to make sure you have admin rights and you gave the necessary permissions on Facebook.

Check your Instagram Account type

Make sure your Instagram Account type is Business. Chatbot automation isn't allowed for Creator Accounts. Follow this step-by-step guide on how to switch your account type.

Check if Facebook and Instagram are linked

Make sure your Instagram and Facebook accounts are connected to each other. You need to check this both in Facebook and Instagram settings.

To check on Facebook:

  1. Go to your Pages and choose your Facebook Page.

  2. Go to SettingsInstagram.

You should see your connected Instagram Account on the right. If not, connect your Instagram Account to your Facebook Page.

To check on Instagram:

  1. Open Instagram on your phone.

  2. Go to Settings → Account→ Sharing to Other Apps.

You should see your Facebook Page selected. If not, connect your Facebook Page to your Instagram Account.

Check Handover Protocol

Sometimes you'll have to manually turn on Handover Protocol. To check and make sure that it is on:

  1. Go to your Pages and choose your Facebook Page.

  2. Go to SettingsAdvanced Messaging.

  3. Go to Handover Protocol section.

  4. Click Configure next to Instagram receiver.

  5. Click Select and choose Chatfuel from the drop-down list.
